Hillsong and other April concerts

A number of you have been asking, so here's the deal:

Yes, we would like to put together a group of people to head to the Hillsong United show in Des Moines on Monday, April 19th, 7:30-10:30 p.m.  We're gonna buy a block of tickets - we're shooting for 50 - so that we can sit together.  Let us know if you're interested in going by sending an email to Shari.  I believe the tickets will be around $25 apiece.

the first follower (you gotta see this!)

I went from skeptical, to intrigued, to smiling, to amazed, to admiring, to thinking pretty seriously... all about some random shirtless guy dancing on a hill.

Check it out, then answer this question:

Where do I need to be a first follower?

P&P 101, personality conflicts, and other updates

We had a great All-Team meeting tonite.  It's always so wonderful to see all of you gather in one place, to be reminded that we're a family, and to see how God is growing our family and influence at PLC.  Thanks for coming.

For those of you who weren't able to make it, we started a series entitled "P&P 101", and began with a  discussion about our church's "personality" - the God-given, unique way that our church reflects who God is, comprised of our mission, vision, values, and DNA.  We also talked about how knowing our church's personality can help us to identify an avoid certain "personality conflicts" that plague so many churches and render them ineffective for God's kingdom.

New Feature - take a look on the side menus to the right to view our Inspired Booklet, both from this month and the past several months.  Great for if you missed an All-Team meeting, or if you just want to be reminded about where we've been!

Next month, we'll be taking a look at our ministry's personality - P&P's mission, vision, values, and DNA - and how it flows from our church's personality.

Here are a few updates for you:

PLC Waterloo
It's been three weeks now since our Waterloo staff and volunteers held their first service in the chapel!  We've made steady improvements to the experience every time.  If you haven't been able to sneak up to the chapel and see what God is doing through our P&P teams up there, you really should.  They won't be in there much longer.

We're still continuing negotiations with First Baptist Church in Waterloo.  But, because of some weather-related delays in meetings and other discussions, we've decided to also pursue a temporary location of Hoover Middle School as a place to begin worshiping in Waterloo sometime before Easter.  It's possible that if we decide to go this route, we could be in there in the next few weeks.  More details to come as they are revealed.  Keep praying, and keep in step.

April means concerts
...and there are some amazing ones coming through Iowa, some right in our backyard.  Tenth Ave. North & Casting Crowns will be at UNI's McLeod Center on Tuesday, April 12 - the same time as our regularly scheduled All-Team meeting.  Hillsong United will be playing in Des Moines sometime in mid to late April.  And David Crowder & MercyMe are coming to Cedar Rapids on Thursday, April 22.

As the details for the Hillsong United show are revealed, we'll make a decision about potentially moving our All-Team meeting to a different night, and organizing some trips to see one, two, or all three of these shows.

Lent, Good Friday, and Easter
Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the 40 days leading up to Good Friday - a season that the Christian church throughout history has designated as Lent.  A great resource for you to enter into the significance of Lent is one from Christian Resource Ministries.  You can sign up for it here.  It's one of the best ways that I've found to connect my heart with the reality of the cross, and really helps me prepare to enter into Good Friday, and eventually, Easter.

As far as P&P is concerned, Good Friday and Easter are one of those occasions in which we travel off the regular rotation for that weekend and craft two teams - one for Good Friday, and another for Easter - for that weekend.  We'll be making requests over the next couple of weeks, inquiring of some of you to be on those teams.  Just FYI.

Alright, that's it from me, friends.  Hope you have a great start to Lent.
